We held our 2011 AGM & Social on Sunday, 27 November. The committee were delighted that almost 60 members and friends attended the meeting. We were very grateful that three ostomy supplies representatives from Salts Healthcare, Dansac and ConvaTec had kindly given up their Sunday free time to show us their company's latest products.

In addition to the published agenda, Consultant Gastroenterologist Dr. Manish Hegde came along to urge those over 60 and eligible for the bowel screening programme currently being rolled out by the Great Western Hospital to respond positively when contacted.

Our treasurer, Madelaine, had given notice at our 2010 AGM that she would be stepping down from office at this year's AGM. I am delighted, however, to confirm Paul Smyth accepted nomination and has been elected our new treasurer. The remainder of the outgoing committee, Frank Williams - chairman; Martin Brien - secretary; Mary Newell, Sandra Wanless & Brian Stone all accepted nomination for a further year in office and were all duly re-elected unopposed.

The business part of the meeting completed, we were entertained by member Dave Prior, who performed a couple of numbers on his ukulele, and keyboard player Cliff Cross, who had returned by popular demand having performed at our summer meeting.

Madelaine & Colin Blank had prepared one of their delicious buffet teas for us and a raffle, with prizes kindly donated by members and friends, raised a very welcome £100 for our funds. All in all, a very successful meeting and our thanks to everyone who attended. Pernicious Anaemia

Our stoma care nurses have draw our attention to some important information that is of a special relevance to ileostomists. The information has come from the Pernicious Anaemia Society and warns of the dangers of vitamin B12 Deficiency and the link with pernicious anaemia.

The Pernicious Anaemia Society has a website and there you will find two important documents for you to download: Symtom Checklist and B12 Test.
