Below is our safeguarding policy, which we feel is proportionate for our activities.
This policy will be reviewed regularly and amended when necessary.
Swindon IA is an ostomy patient self help support group and a registered UK charity. All our trustees are volunteers and we have no paid staff. Swindon IA maintains its own website:
www.swindon-ia.org.uk and has a presence on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SwindonIA
The charity’s primary activity is the organising of members’ meetings for social contact and the dissemination of relevant information to ostomists and their families.
We also contribute copy to and distribute an ostomy magazine, The Midlands News Bulletin, and produce and distribute local newsletters for our members.
Occasionally, we receive a request from a new ostomist or a patient who is facing surgery to speak with an experienced ostomist. Currently, these requests are forwarded to our stoma care nurses, who hold a list of suitable ostomists. In any event, this form of contact is not intended to be ongoing, merely a form of reassurance for new ostomy patients.
Swindon IA’s trustees are committed to providing a safe environment for everyone participating in its activities and will not tolerate abuse of any sort from any quarter in its activities.
If you suspect or wish to report an incident, please contact in the first instance any officer, who will immediately investigate and report to the trustees. Throughout the investigation the complainant will be informed of progress and of any decision of the trustees. However, as required by law, in a serious incident the matter will be immediately reported to the relevant statutory body.
